Awkwafina was initially an American performer and rapper, performing sly tunes that dealt with topics like racial or sexual identity with a comedic twist. Prior to her move to Hollywood the singer was able to perform a variety of tracks. Nora Lum was born to Chinese-Korean immigrants in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was from the trumpet. In addition to classical and jazz, the young Nora began studying hip-hop in her teens. In her studies, she studied journalism as well as women's studies in college even learning Mandarin in Beijing for a time. When she graduated, she started to focus on music. After gaining viral fame through the Internet, her song My Vag was a reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually made its way onto the debut album Yellow Ranger.
