Alanis Morissette
Alanis Nadine was born on 1 June 1974, in Ottawa, Canada. Alanis' Greek name is an feminine form of her father's last name, Alan. Her two siblings are Chad (Alanis Twin) as well as Wade. When she was just 6, she learned how to play the piano. Then, at 21 at the age of 21, she began playing guitar. In 1986, Alanis released a single titled Fate Stay With me (b-side: Find The Right Man). To be specific, during her time in Canada, Alanis recorded two dance-pop records: Alanis (in 1991) and The Time Is The Time in 1992. The singer moved to Toronto at the age of 18 and started working with writers and musicians, however the collaborations didn't work. Then, in 1994, she came across the perfect collaborator: producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who had collaborated with several artists, including Aretha Franklin Michael Jackson and Barbra Streisand. Her move to LA when she was 19 years old. In June of 1995 "Jagged Little Pill" was released by Madonna's Maverick Records. Alanis was able to come up with the idea of creating songs that were very personal and autobiographical. JLP has sold more than 30 million copies across the globe, becoming the best selling female album as well as the 3rd top-selling album of all times. JLP's release came after an emotional crisis (she was contemplating not releasing an album) as well as the trip to Europe.
